Hello everyone and welcome back to the Library newsletter, for our final issue of the term, and the academic year!

Now for many, the last essay is in, or the final exam has been sat, meaning that ahead is a few months of no academic deadlines! But outside of staying cool, what are some of the best ways to spend the summer break? As ambassadors of the Library, we certainly aren’t biased in saying that it’s the perfect time to read, and Arin and Anastasia have you covered with a reading list of recommendations.

For some of us, not only is it the final term of the year, but of our degrees, and with that in mind we have pieces reflecting on the Library’s year in numbers, and how the Library has played a part throughout our degrees. While it is important to look back, we are also looking ahead as we share our own summer plans. I hope you enjoy this issue!

Hottest summer reads for 2023
by Anastasia Cagnoni & Arin Ososanya

During the academic term, reading wider than one’s module reading lists or even just reading for leisure, can prove daunting as the workload steadily increases. For that reason, many people tend to use the summer to dive into books and get lost in other worlds as they enjoy the warm weather. Here are some of our top reading suggestions for this summer.

How the Library is celebrating Pride Month by Rebekah Elliot

1 June marked the start of Pride Month in many countries across the world. To promote visibility and awareness of the LGBTQUIA+ community, the Library has a range of displays and content for students to engage with over the coming weeks, both in person and online.

Shelving the Library's academic year by Anastasia Cagnoni

As we all know, there are many study spaces around campus, and we all have our personal favourites, but have you ever wondered how many visits the Library has? What is the most borrowed book? And what was the highest Library occupancy this year?

Here are some answers to these, and other questions about your learning grids!

Thank you for reading the final issue of the Library Newsletter of the academic year! I hope over the course of this year, we’ve helped you in some way, whether it's through a handy piece of advice, an interesting literal factoid, or simply an excuse to give yourself a break from work. From all of us here at the Library Newsletter Team, have a great summer!

Best wishes,
