Hello, and welcome back to your Doctoral College newsletter. This week, we are sharing new Researcher Development sessions for you to make the most of, from writing tips through to creating positive working relationships. If you're considering presenting at our Festival of Postgraduate Research this year, hear from Danielle Adams who presented her thesis last year and found this to be an enriching experience.

Warwick Food Group, working in partnership with the Department of Chemistry, are launching a Community Fridge. Available from Monday 11 March, the Community Fridge is an initiative to help reduce food waste and distribute surplus food to people who can make use of it. A variety of food items, all free of charge, will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. You will be able to go along and pick what you need.

International Women's Day takes place on Friday 8 March. This year's theme is all about how we can inspire inclusion. There's a whole range of ways to get involved across campus, with events ranging from a talk by Zarah Sultana, MP for Coventry South, to the Women’s Night In for beginner-friendly sports, as well as a tour through Warwick Arts Centre’s Phantom Sculpture show, highlighting pieces by women artists.

Festival of Postgraduate Research 2024
We would like to invite you to deliver a 3-minute talk at the Festival of Postgraduate Research on 23 May. This opportunity is open to all stages of reseach and will include training on enhancing your presentation skills ahead of the event. You can showcase your work in other various formats. Submit your interest by 15 March and if you have any questions, please get in touch.
Being, Becoming and Belonging: Exploring Diasporic Identities
The Race Xchange cluster are pleased to announce the first BSA funded Regional Postgraduate event on Wednesday 12 June, at the Doctoral College at Coventry University. We invite applications from across different fields and disciplines. It is an opportunity to network and build relationships across fields and disciplines, within and outside of the University space. Read more and make your submission by 29 March.
Early Career Fellowship workshop
If you will be submitting your thesis for examination between 1 May and 30 September 2024, this worshop is for you. The Early Career Fellowship supports completing Warwick PhD students who wish to establish themselves in an academic career. Early Career Fellows receive a bursary, training to develop your academic leadership skills and support to produce career-enhancing outputs from your thesis. Join the workshop on 20 March.
Have your say
Help shape the way the central campus looks and feels, by attending an in-person creative forum on either 11 March or 14 March, with free refreshments provided. Find out more and book your space. If you can’t attend the event, you can also fill in the short survey. All completed responses will automatically be entered into a prize draw for a range of gift vouchers.

This session on 12 March will explain the basics of the passive voice. It will explore the advantages and disadvantages of using the passive voice in different circumstances.

Research is challenging, not just in itself but in its impact on our wellbeing as researchers. There are techniques that we can apply to help us recognise our stress and to maintain our wellbeing. Find out more in this session on 13 March.

Come along to Research Refresh and PG Tips next week on 12 and 14 March at the Library, where you can take a break from your work, connect with other researchers and ask questions outside of your department on all areas of postgraduate life.

Festival of Postgraduate Research
As the Festival of Postgraduate Research draws closer, we are delighted to invite you to take part. The event on 23 May is an opportunity to showcase your research either in 3-minute talks or in a range of traditional and non-traditional formats. The day will include interactive talks on topics such as 'Overcoming challenges during your PhD' and 'Finding joy in your research'. Let’s come together and enjoy ourselves over shared interests and some delicious refreshments!
