Hello Student

Last year we launched a Degree Apprenticeship feedback project – the first of its kind at Warwick. As a Degree Apprentice, your experience as a member of the University of Warwick is unique and we wanted to find out what works well for you, and what could be improved.

Based on your feedback we’ve made some changes, starting with this newsletter, which is tailored to you. Here you’ll find out about the skills and career support provided by Student Opportunity, which is available to you whilst at Warwick.

Appointments and support

1:1 Careers Appointments

Discuss any aspect of your career – future planning, decision-making, or for mock interview practice if you’re applying for a promotion – in an online or in-person 30 minute appointment with Jo, our careers consultant for degree apprentices. Book an appointment by emailing Jo at jo.pearson@warwick.ac.uk. Find out more

Intercultural Training

Intercultural training enables you to better understand, communicate, and build effective relationships with those from different cultural backgrounds. The skills acquired from this training can be applied to your current role and can be a positive addition to your CV. As well as in-person workshops on campus, you can enrol onto the Intercultural Communication Online Moodle Course, which helps develop your understanding of culture, explores expectations about working across cultures, and enhances your analytical skills.

Warwick Award

The Warwick Award encourages you to reflect on the skills you’re already developing through your degree apprenticeship, as well as more broadly in your professional life and other activities, such as caring responsibilities. The Award enables you to identify your skill strengths, and where you may want to develop to aid your career progression. Humans of Warwick

“My interests were always in maths and engineering. Growing up in Pakistan, it was the men who became the engineers, and the women doctors or teachers.”

You may recognise Dr Freeha Azmat, who teaches degree apprenticeships at WMG. Freeha shares her story on Humans of Warwick, as part of our 60th year celebrations. Read on
