COVID-19 update following government announcement

Following the discovery of the new Omicron strain of Covid-19, the government has announced that from Tuesday 30 November:

The government is taking these precautions until scientists can assess what the new variant’s impact could be and will review the changes again in three weeks’ time.

What does this mean on campus?

From tomorrow (Tuesday 30 November), face coverings are compulsory in Rootes Grocery store and on public transport.

In other spaces on campus, guidance is as follows

  • Teaching, research and non-library-managed study spaces - you are expected to wear a face covering when you are moving around and when you are sitting down
  • You are expected to wear a face covering when you are moving around crowded or enclosed spaces including in the Library.
  • There will be no requirement for face coverings or social distancing in cafes or conference spaces on campus, nor in the Warwick Arts Centre or the Sports and Wellness Hub. This is in accordance with government and sector-specific guidance. You're free to wear face coverings and practise social distancing in these spaces if you'd prefer to.

What else can I do to keep myself and others safe?

  • Get vaccinated and have a booster when you’re eligible
  • Make sure you download the NHS Covid-19 app to allow for effective contact tracing.
  • Get tested if you experience any Covid-19 symptoms and let us know if you test positive.
  • Take twice weekly lateral flow tests.
  • Keep up to date with what’s going on by checking your email regularly, following our social media channels and keeping an eye on MyWarwick.
Please be considerate of those around you and ensure that you follow the latest guidance to keep our community on campus safe.

Christmas Tree Lights Switch On - Wednesday 1 December

Come one, come all to Benefactors Plaza on Wednesday to enjoy Christmas festivities and the switch on of the Christmas Tree lights on the plaza, and outside the NAIC building. There will be food and drink outlets with Christmassy treats, a choir, our Brass Society playing Christmas tunes, photo opportunities with our live reindeer and a special guest to help with the switch on.

Send a holiday greeting to our community

We'd love you to record a message or send a text that we can show on the Piazza Big Screen. Share the love this festive season and submit your message here.

Festive events and vacation hours for on-campus services

There's so much going on on campus in the last 2 weeks of term and into the Christmas vacation. Our Christmas at Warwick website has information on opening times for on-campus venues and retail spaces, links to local and regional transport providers, wellbeing support, and a list of what's on over the festive period.
