Hello Student,

It's the end of term 1 - it's gone so fast! We'd like to wish you all a Merry Christmas, if you're celebrating, and a restful break over the vacation. Yesterday we shared an update following the latest government COVID-19 announcement - take a look.

Read on for details of support and what's on if you're staying on campus or in the local area for the holidays - we've added lots of new, free and fun activities! We also have details of how to nominate your teachers for an award, how to be safe and dispose of waste sustainably over the break, guidance for those sitting examinations in January and advice for those traveling home over the vacation.

What's on over Christmas - new events added!

We've added lots of 'coming soon' Warwick Presents events that you'll be able to enjoy if you're staying on campus during the vacation. We'll have free tickets to play online escape room experiences, we're booking an entire cinema screen in Warwick Arts Centre for you to see the latest Spiderman film and there'll be free cinema tickets for other screenings too - and facemasks will be required for entry. We're also offering free gym and swim membership during the break, discounted Voi scooter rides, and we'll be dropping board games at locations on campus for you to play with friends. Take a look!

Our Christmas at Warwick website has lots of other information on opening times for on-campus venues and retail spaces, links to local and regional transport providers and wellbeing support over the vacation. The Chaplaincy Lounge will be open each day during the vacation, including Christmas Day, with coffee, tea, toast and board games on offer. Visit the Christmas at Warwick website.

Our main library (including the Wolfson Research Exchange) will be open each day over the vacation except Christmas day (25 December). Find out more about opening times for the library and all other study spaces on campus

Self-isolating on campus during the holidays

If you test positive you can use your on-campus accommodation for self-isolation as long as you need, provided you have a contract for the full year. Please let us know if you test positive either at an on-campus or off-campus testing site so we can support you with extra refuse collection. Your Residential Life Tutor will also be able to support you, so make them aware if you're isolating.

If you're self isolating, follow our guidance for living in halls of residence. Use kitchens on a rota basis agreed with your flat mates and order and collect deliveries from the front of your block whilst social-distancing and wearing a face covering. If you feel unwell contact NHS online or ring 111 for medical advice.

Safety and locking up over Christmas and the holidays

If you're heading home for the end of term, keep yourself and your valuables safe with tips from our Community Safety team. Lock your windows and your room door on campus, or the front and rear doors of off-campus accommodation, take your valuables with you and don't leave items visible from your windows and doors. In addition, don't share pictures of your accommodation on social media where they can be seen and shared. Find out more.

Sustainability, recycling and waste over the festive season

Do your part over the festive season and dispose of waste sustainably and responsibly if you're living off campus. Check collection dates for your area whether you're in Coventry or Leamington/Warwickshire. It's especially important not leave waste on show outside the front of your property on the wrong days as the local council may fine your household. Contact your landlord to ask them to provide bins and recycling boxes if they are missing from your property.

Even at Christmas it is important that we all commit to responding to the climate emergency and a good starting point can be found in our Energy and Sustainability Team's Green Christmas list - how many will you tick off?

Traveling home over the vacation

If you are planning to return to your country of domicile after completing term 1 and have previously received a Managed Hotel Quarantine Accommodation Reimbursement, please be aware that you can only receive this reimbursement once. Please read this FAQ in full before deciding whether to travel to your country of domicile for the Christmas vacation.

Book your place on the Active Bystander Intervention Course

We can all play a role as Active Bystanders to help put a stop to sexual harassment and abuse. Join the Active Bystander Intervention course and develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to safely challenge unacceptable behaviour. Explore what being an Active Bystander is, how we can challenge harmful social norms, and techniques and strategies we can use to intervene when it’s safe to do so. The course is open to UGs and PGTs, is HEAR accredited, and you'll get a certificate of participation. Bookings for term 2 are now open.
