Hello Student

We hope you’ve had an enjoyable Christmas break so far. We’re looking forward to welcoming you onto campus ready to start term 2 next week (Monday 10 January). We’re just getting in touch to let you know that teaching and learning will commence as per your term 2 timetable and so everyone should be here by 10 January as planned.

Staying safe on campus

We’re also taking this opportunity to outline what you need to do to ensure we keep each other as a safe as possible, and highlight steps you can take before you return to campus. It’s really important that we continue to follow the safety requirements in place to reduce the transmission of Covid-19, so please read and follow the guidance below to keep yourself and others safe.

Face coverings

In line with Department for Education guidance, you’re now required to wear a face covering when moving around indoor spaces and when seated in research, teaching and study spaces (unless you have a valid exemption). For those of you taking face-to-face examinations on campus during January, you’ll also be required to wear a face covering during your exam. Check the full guidance for face coverings on campus.

Asymptomatic testing

To ensure your safety and the safety of our wider community, the Government has emphasised the importance of asymptomatic testing to reduce the spread of the virus. Please take a lateral flow test before returning to campus for term 2. If you test positive, you should stay at your home address to isolate, complete this form and let your academic department know.

Everyone should continue to take twice-weekly lateral flow tests during term 2. You can collect lateral flow testing kits on campus or order a home testing kit.

These measures will help identify and isolate any positive cases early and, hopefully, reduce onward transmission of the virus to your fellow students, staff and the wider community.

Symptomatic testing

If you are experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, you should self-isolate immediately and book a PCR test on campus or at a local site. If you use a local NHS site and test positive, please let us know.

Vaccinations

We’re pleased to note high uptake of vaccinations in our community but it’s vital that we all keep up to date with vaccinations and get a booster when eligible, as it’s the best way we can protect ourselves and others. Please book your Covid-19 vaccinations, whether that’s your first or second vaccination, or a booster jab as we look to keep our community safe over the coming months. See dates and times of drop-in vaccination clinics in Coventry and Warwickshire or book through the National Booking Service.

Adopting a flexible approach

In the first few weeks of term, we’re aware that we may need to be flexible with our teaching approach. We’ll be able to adapt quickly if there is a short term need to switch to online teaching. Your department will have contingency plans in place and will be in touch if any changes are required to your teaching method.

Enjoy the last few days of your break and we look forward to welcoming you back.

Best wishes,
