Hello Jemima
Welcome back to term, in these most extraordinary circumstances of a national lockdown imposed again by government, but this time far more tightly than that which we saw in November. First of all, I hope that you, your family, and friends are well.
For the vast majority of our students, all learning will be online at the moment, as you will know. This is directly as a result of government restrictions. However, I hope you will be reassured to know that we have planned for this eventuality from last summer. And we as a university are now experienced in this form of working – which is a significant difference to last March.
We have adopted the following principles to guide us through this current lockdown:
Protect the health of our university community, our families, and our neighbours, in particular through testing and support for our wellbeing; and work to maintain our sense of community as a university.
Deliver high quality teaching and learning to our students, to ensure timely graduations and progression.
Carefully manage our finances to protect jobs.
Continue bringing about positive transformation and recovery in our communities and the world by maintaining and accelerating our world-leading disciplinary and interdisciplinary research.
Ensure that as a university and as individual citizens, we volunteer to support those in need in our local communities where we can.
Wherever you are studying this term, remember you can speak with your personal tutor for academic or pastoral guidance, just as before. For anyone in need of extra help, or simply wanting someone to talk to, our Wellbeing Support Services are always on hand when you need them. For those of you who are studying on campus, your residential life team are a further source of support you can rely upon. Many of our on-campus facilities will safely stay open in term 2, meaning you can still access study spaces and other services. Visit the Term 2 plans page for more information and updates on further changes. All of you are valued members of our community, so please keep in touch with the University and with each other.
And, as we react to this ongoing unpredictability, your feedback is invaluable. Please keep letting us know about your time at Warwick, through the likes of the National Student Survey for final-year students that opens on 8 February. It’s vital we keep hearing about your experience.
I’d like to wish you all the best for term 2 and I hope 2021 will, eventually, bring better times to us all.

Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Warwick
