Hello Jemima
Hear more on the measures we have introduced to ensure each student is assessed fairly this year
Last week, we let you know about the Covid Mitigation Package of Education Measures for 2020/21. Today we are sharing some videos to explain in more detail the approach we have taken this year to ensure each student is assessed fairly.
Gwen Van der Velden, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor explains our approach in the video linked below. You can also hear from Dr Cathy Hampton (SMLC) and Dr Dave Wood (Mathematics) who talk in more detail about how our processes work this year and how they will help you achieve to the best of your abilities, despite the difficult circumstances.
You will have noted we are not using an algorithmic approach such as last year (the Graduate Benchmark). Taking that approach is simply not possible this year, as for most students we would not have enough marks to base a graduate benchmark on. Instead, we believe you deserve a more individual approach, as we recognise students are affected in very different and more complex ways than last year, especially as the Covid restrictions continue to have an impact.
To make it possible for all students to get the mitigation support that fits their specific challenges, we are using our tried and tested systems (such as the mitigating circumstances portal) but in extended ways. That makes it easier for us to use the systems, but we can also ensure reliability and accountability of decisions made about your assessment results and awards. And this in turn secures the standard and reputation of your degree.
Please take the time to watch Cathy's and Dave's videos. If there’s anything else you need to know, please speak to your department.
